Member for Barwon Kevin Humphries is thrilled to announced $1,780,800 for the replacement of Tarriaro Bridge in Narrabri as part of the NSW Government’s Regional Growth Fund.

Mr Humphries said the funding proposes to replace Tarriaro Bridge, which is a single lane bridge built in 1975, and replace it with a dual lane concrete bridge.
“This funding is fantastic news the arrival and subsequent expansion of the mining industry in the area has resulted in greater traffic volumes and heavy equipment regularly using the bridge.

“Installation of a dual lane bridge will improve traffic flow, allow wide loads and heavy (multi-axle) vehicles cross the bridge, shorten travel distance of freight, wide loads and mine employees, and most importantly increase safety,” Mr Humphries said.

Mayor Cathy Redding said, “Narrabri Shire Council has rigorously campaigned for funding to replace the single lane Tarriaro Bridge with a dual lane structure for a number of years. There has been a significant increase in the use of this bridge by the community, visitors and various industries with safety being a major concern for road users. This upgrade will improve safety on this stretch of road dramatically as well as improve connectivity to the Narrabri Shire.”

Mr Barilaro said Regional Growth Fund Projects help create extra jobs and economic growth in regional communities.

“Mining makes a significant contribution to the NSW economy, supporting more than 100,000 jobs, but the benefits it brings can place extra pressure on infrastructure, such as wear and tear on roads,” Mr Barilaro said.

“It’s only fair that mining-related communities that provide so much also receive their share of investment in public infrastructure, which is why the NSW Government continues to reinvest in projects that provide benefits and economic opportunities for the community.

“I’m thrilled for the Barwon electorate and congratulate Narrabri Shire Council on this funding win, and also for their contribution, for a project that will help our regional communities continue to thrive and support the NSW economy.”

The $1.6 billion Regional Growth Fund is designed to support growing regional centres, activate local economies and improve services and community infrastructure for regional communities.
