FUNDING BOOST FOR BARWON BOATIES

12 January 2018

Three projects within the Barwon electorate have been approved to share $17 million in funding under Round Two of the NSW Government’s Boating Now program.

Member for Barwon, Kevin Humphries announced more than $274,400 would deliver new boat ramps, pontoons and jetties, and improve car and trailer parking facilities at key access points across the Barwon electorate.

“In NSW, we have some of the finest waterways and each year more than two million people head out on the water on boats or other watercraft to enjoy the sun, catch a few fish or to spend time with family and friends,” Mr Humphries said.

“The NSW Government is delivering these projects to the Barwon electorate by the end of 2019 in partnership with local councils and other partners, to make water activities safer, easily accessible and more enjoyable.

Boating Now is a $70 million five year program, on top of a $26 million contribution by local councils and other delivery partners, to deliver vital boating infrastructure across the state.”

Minister for Roads, Maritime and Freight, Melinda Pavey, said this was the second round of funding under the Boating Now program, with the three projects in Barwon among 73 other successful applications across the state.

“Boating is a key driver of tourism, right up and down the coast and at popular inland waterways, which is where many of the 73 new projects are located,” Mrs Pavey said.

“The program also supports the new Maritime Safety Plan by improving safe access to waterways.”

Successful projects in the Barwon electorate are:

  • North Bourke Boat Ramp - $86,550
  • Lake Cargelligo Boat Ramp - $99,000
  • Yellow Banks, Wee Waa Boat Ramp - $88,850

Applicants that missed out under Round Two of the program can re-apply for under Round Three of Boating Now in 2018.
