Member for Barwon Kevin Humphries has announced $309,877 in funding for Lachlan, Coonamble and Gilgandra Shire Councils under the 2016/17 Public Libraries Infrastructure Grant program.
Mr Humphries said the grants are part of $4 million worth of funding for 31 public library projects across NSW.
“Our public libraries provide such a valuable service in rural and regional communities, serving as a place of learning and research as well as recreation,” Mr Humphries said.
“I’m very pleased to see our local Councils successfully secure this funding to ensure the library service for the Condobolin, Coonamble and Gilgandra communities continues.”
Lachlan Shire Council has received $200,000 for the Condobolin Library extension, whilst $31,200 will be spent by Coonamble Shire Council on ‘Open’ spaces.
A further $78,677 was awarded to Gilgandra Shire Council to go towards their local library project, ‘Rural Opportunities – Break the Barriers’.
NSW Minister for the Arts Don Harwin welcomed the funding boost for NSW public libraries.
“The NSW Government is proud to be supporting public libraries and the important work they do in our communities through these grants," Mr Harwin said.
“This funding allocation brings NSW Government support for public libraries in 2016/17 to almost $32.5 million.”
The Public Library Infrastructure Grants program is administered by the State Library of NSW on behalf of the Library Council of NSW.
