BARWON TO GET EXPANDED NDIS SERVICES

1 August 2018

Member for Barwon Kevin Humphries today announced grant funding for eight disability sector businesses that have received grants to expand their services in the Barwon electorate.

“I’m delighted the eight were among just 10 businesses across NSW that secured a grant from the NSW Government’s $19 million Disability Sector Scale-Up (DSSU) program to help them make the most of the rollout of the NDIS,” Mr Humphries said.

“These organisations are already doing great work in the disability space and these grants will help them expand and enhance their capacity to support and improve the quality of life for people with a disability in our electorate.

The eight businesses that received grants in Barwon are:

  • Centre for Disability Studies  - $498,000
  • Novita Children’s Services Limited - $475,000
  • Housing Plus - $251,302
  • Royal Far West - $1.339 million
  • Mackillop Family Services Limited - $998,477
  • The Northcott Society -consortium with Northcott Innovation and Ability Mate - $852,625
  • My Supports - $1,405,000
  • Summer Foundation - consortium with Disability Services Consulting - $438,600

Deputy Premier and Minister for Skills and Small Business John Barilaro congratulated the successful recipients in a very competitive grant program.

“More than 250 businesses applied for the Business Acceleration Grant program so as you can imagine competition was fierce,” Mr Barilaro said.

“While the businesses selected are exceptional and innovative, the quality of all applicants showcased the exciting opportunities for businesses with the rollout of the NDIS and I congratulate them all.”

Minister for Disability Services Ray Williams said the Disability Sector Scale-Up was a key part of the NSW Government’s $100 million Smart, Skilled & Hired initiative.

“As well as grant funding, the DSSU also provides low cost advisory services for small businesses across the state through Business Connect to help them identify and capitalise on opportunities that emerge as a result of the NDIS,” he said.
