FAR WEST REGIONAL ARTS ON THE RISE WITH NEW FUNDING FROM NSW GOVERNMENT

Kevin Humphries, Member for Barwon announced today that arts and culture in Broken Hill and the Far West, will continue to shine with an outstanding line-up of new creative projects fast-approaching thanks to $18,150 in funding from the NSW Government.

Creative organisations from across the Far West will play host to range of short-term, locally initiated community productions, programs, performances and workshops.

Member for Barwon, Kevin Humphries today acknowledged the devastating impact of losing a colleague, friend or family member who made the ultimate sacrifice while bravely serving our state.

Prison staff, friends and families are gathering across the Barwon Electorate for Corrective Services NSW Remembrance Day, which commemorates frontline officers who fell in the line of duty.

The annual event also marks the lives of staff who died from other causes while still employed and those who passed away after retiring.

NEW FIRE TANKER HITS THE ROAD IN BROKEN HILL

Member for Barwon, Kevin Humphries said a new tanker delivered to Broken Hill South Fire Station would bolster Fire and Rescue NSW’s (FRNSW) capacity to deal with fires and other emergencies on the urban/bush interface.

Fire and emergency protection in the State’s Far West has received a big boost today with the delivery of the $345,000 firefighting tanker.

LOCAL SCHOOLS TO BE AIR CONDITIONED UNDER COOLER CLASSROOMS FUND

Member for Barwon Kevin Humphries welcomes the NSW Government announcement of 69 schools in Barwon set to receive air conditioning under its Cooler Classrooms program.

“I’m pleased that so many schools in our local communities will benefit from the Cooler Classrooms Fund.

“This is part of the Government’s continued commitment to providing environments where our students and teachers can best succeed,” Mr Humphries said.

BROKEN HILL TO WELCOME MORE HOLIDAY VISITORS

Kevin Humphries, Member for Barwon, said Broken Hill is set to welcome more overnight visitors following a NSW Government grant towards the development of 31 powered sites at the new Broken Hill Holiday Park.

David, Aileen & Michael McIvor who presently operate the Broken Hill Tourist Park on Rakow Street, which currently offers 44 cabins and 130 camping sites, will receive $150,000 from the NSW Government’s Regional Tourism Fund towards this new development.

ABORIGINAL FISHING TRUST FUND GRANTS NOW OPEN

Aboriginal people, businesses and community groups in Barwon are encouraged to apply for grants or loans from the Aboriginal Fishing Trust Fund for projects that relate to Aboriginal Fishing in NSW.

Member for Barwon Kevin Humphries said the fund supports a wide variety of activities across coastal and inland regions which enhance, protect or promote Aboriginal cultural fishing or provide fishing related economic opportunities for Aboriginal communities.

FUNDING INJECTION TO BOOST MAARI MA SERVICES

Member for Barwon, Kevin Humphries said funding for a backup generator would ensure Maari Ma Health could continue to open its doors all year round.

This will see Aboriginal health services in the Far West remain operational during power outages, thanks to an $80,000 NSW Government grant.

“While Maari Ma is based in Broken Hill, it provides important primary health services to Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people from surrounding areas, including Wilcannia, Menindee and Ivanhoe,” Kevin Humphries said

The Tresillian in Far West, Broken Hill Service officially launched today (26 November 2018) extending child and family health care services for local families.

The launch will be held from 1.30am-3pm, Community Health Centre, corner of Sulphide & Crystal Streets, Broken Hill. Official proceedings will get underway at 1.45pm.
